INDIA vs ENGLAND - 1st Test

DAY-1


Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat first.

England: Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Zak Crawley, Joe Root(c), Jonny Bairstow, Daniel Lawrence, Jos Buttler(w), Sam Curran, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson


India:  Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj


Session 1:


India would not have asked for a better start when Bumrah trapped Rory Burns with a sharp inswinger in the very first over. Zak Crawley and Dominic Sibley joined hands and they tried to build a partnership. In 21st over, the partnership was broken by Siraj as Crawley edged the ball to Pant. English Captain Joe root started his innings with a flurry of boundaries. At lunch, England was 61-2.


Session 2:


India started the session brilliantly by removing Dominic Sibley for 18 runs. Jonny Bairstow joined his skipper and build a threatening partnership with boundaries coming at regular intervals. Just before tea Shami dismissed Bairstow with a sharp in-cutter. So, at the end of session 2, England was 138-4.


Session 3: 


If we say that this session was completely dominated by the Indian bowlers, it would be correct. As the session started, Daniel Lawrence was dismissed by Md. Shami, and with this England lost half of their side. Buttler played painstaking innings as he was on duck in 17 balls. The 18th ball was his last one as he was done with the brilliance of Bumrah. Shardul Thakur got the prized wicket of Joe Root and in the same over, he dismissed Ollie Robinson. England was bowled out for 183. the last 7 wickets came for 45 runs.


Top scorer for England: Joe Root 64 Runs.

Highest wickets taker for India: Jasprit Bumrah 4 wickets.



India had a challenge in their hands for surviving the last hour as we all know it becomes difficult for batting in the last hour in English Conditions.


Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul showed great resistance for 13 overs, as India ended the day on high by scoring 21 runs for no loss with both the openers on an individual score of 9 runs.
